Exploding toads explained?
Common Sense & Wonder has a post and a link to a possible explanation for the mysterious German exploding toads. While the exploding toad phenomenon has spread to Denmark, a veterinarian studying the German remains thinks the explanation is crows eating the livers of live toads, which "puff up" as a defense mechanism and then explode. And, if he's right, it seems to be a singularly ineffective defense mechanism!
